Dr. Hongbin Bei


Dr. Hongbin Bei joined the Oak Ridge National Laboratory in 2008 where he currently is a research staff member in the Alloying Behavior and Design Group. He received his Ph. D in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Tennessee. Dr. Bei's research focus on alloy design, materials synthesis, microstructure control and mechanical behavior across multiple length scales (from nano to macro) of various structural materials, including advanced steels, superalloys, bulk metallic glasses, intermetallic compounds and the recently developed high entropy alloys. HE has published 1 patent and more than 100 articles in peer-reviewed journals, several of which are recognized as TOP CITED papers in their respective journals. As a senior investigator of EDDE, Dr. Bei participates in both Thrusts. His main research efforts involve materials selection, synthesis and single crystal growth and investigations of defect formation and the interactions in the materials under irradiation environments. His materials and experimental data will be used to validate theoretical models of energy dissipation processes under various irradiation conditions.
