Dr. James R. Morris

Dr. James R. Morris is the Program Manager for the ORNL Basic Energy Sciences (BES) – Materials Science and Engineering Division (MSED) projects.  The program at ORNL includes more than 20 projects spanning multiple major areas, including materials at extremes, correlated materials, and materials for energy generation and storage.  He joined the Alloy Behavior and Design group at Oak Ridge National Laboratory in 2003, and became joint faculty with the University of Tennessee’s Department of Materials Science and Engineering in 2005.  As an expert in computational materials science, he has published over 100 peer-reviewed journal articles on various material properties, including thermodynamic properties, mechanical behavior and defect structure, interfacial and nucleation phenomena, and properties of liquid and amorphous systems.  For the Energy Frontier Research Center (EFRC) on Energy Dissipation to Defect Evolution (EDDE), Morris assists in the management of the project, participating in discussions with the advisory committee, helping prepare materials for reviews, and interacting with DOE managers as appropriate
